Elements offers a selection of image editing programs: a web page with a big hole in the middle. That hole gives you access to the basic image editing tools, and on the left side you have a set of icons for features like tools, grids, and brushes. Elements does not come with a standard desktop toolbar.

To access Elements, you access the Elements web page, see Web page for Photoshop Elements, and click the Tools button on the left side. Then you see a button in the corner. Click that button to access the familiar Elements interface.

Elements is geared toward novices but offers the basics, with the most important tools being a paintbrush, layer and layer mask, and adjustment layers, discussed in the box on Basic Editing Tools. The good news is that Elements also supports some of Photoshop’s most important tools like brushes and the clone stamp tool. The bad news is that Elements doesn’t include many of Photoshop’s more specialized filters and effects.

Phew. That’s a lot of reading. So, let’s get started.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you the basics you need to know to create great graphics using Photoshop Elements. We’ll also cover the fundamentals of color theory and basic color correction. We’ll talk about saving and sharing images you create using Photoshop Elements.

It’s a long tutorial so sit back, open Photoshop Elements and let’s rock out together.

Open and create a new document. Click on File > New > Photograph

Choose a size and your desired resolution. I suggest choosing a 400 DPI file for best quality.

Name the file and save it, then you can work on it at a later time.

Now we will go over the basics of how to edit the image so you can create your first DIY banner.

Let’s start on the horizontal black bars in this photo.

Step 1: Add a Layer Mask

Go to Layers > New > Layer Mask

With the Mask selected, go to Mask > Reveal All

Now you should be able to see the black bars that are on the top and bottom of the image.

Step 2: Select the Brush Tool

With the Brush Tool active, hold down Alt or Option and click on a pixel in the bar. You’ll notice the brush will focus on the area. The range of the brush is determined by the size of the brush. The brush tool allows you to create and edit basic shapes such as lines, circles, rectangles, and rounded corners. You can create easily selectable areas of your own choosing or you can select a preset brush from the Brush Tool to apply to a different area of the image.

Now use the Brush Tool to edit the black bars or masks you just created.

Start by clicking where the black line intersects with the photo in the top right corner.

Paint a new line that leaves a fine point on the top half of the bar.

Use the Dump Bucket to remove the black lines that you painted with the Brush Tool.

Use the Dump Bucket to remove the first gray line you created.

Step 3: Use Layer Styles

Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Layer Styles

Select the Marquee Tool

Click and drag the gray line in the middle of the image. Now that you have the layer style, you can use other layer style tools

Check if page is submitted without postback with javascript or jQuery

I have a validation control on a page with a button. I’d like to be able to pre-populate the page with the data and have the value not pass if the button has not been clicked.
I have tried using $.pageIsBeingEdited(true), however that only tells me whether my page is in a process of being edited.
$.fn.pageIsBeingEdited = function(isEditingPage) {
var state = $.data(this);
if (state == undefined) {
return false;
if (state.isEditingPage == undefined) {
return isEditingPage;

You could use the MasterPage’s IsPostBack property:
function IsPostBack() { return IsPostBack(PageName); }

function IsPostBack(PageName) {
var postBack = window.event? window.event.srcElement : null;
var currentPage = document.referrer;
return currentPage && currentPage!= postBack &&!currentPage.indexOf(“postback:”, 10);

window.onbeforeunload = function () {
// if there is no postback, do something
// (like redirect to any other page)
window.location.href = ‘otherPage.html’;

Slip and fall accidents injure or kill tens of thousands of Americans each year. This nationwide problem has attracted considerable attention from emergency medical personnel, engineers, architects, and others, but no simple solution to prevent such accidents has been found.
As President George W. Bush recently said, “It’s as simple as that. It’s not a matter of if we will lose a child, but when.” The facts are that a leading cause of death for children under the age of five is from injury by a falling object. By the age of fourteen, falling objects account for 37% of all unintentional injuries. Injuries from slips and falls are the cause of one third of all fatal falls in the U.S. The

decreasing a function without finding its minimum

Given $f:\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}$ that satisfies $f(x)>0$ and $\lim_{x\to-\infty}f(x)$ is finite.
Can I conclude that there is an $x_0$ such that $f(x)>0$ for all $x\geq x_0$?

How about
$$f(x) = \begin{cases}
1 & x\in[1,2)\\
\frac1{x^2} & x\in[-1,-1/2)\\
0 & \text{otherwise}
I cannot see what you want here.
I think I finally know what you want to achieve. Basically I want to show that there is a $x_0>-\infty$ such that $f(x)>0$ for all $x\ge x_0$.
There is a well known theorem which can be found in any good book on analysis. It says that if a function $f$ is positive and non decreasing on an interval $I$ then it can be extended to an entire function. As we know there is no limit point on $\mathbb R$ so $f$ does not have a point of discontinuity so by the Riemann-Lebesgue lemma, the function $f$ can be extended to the whole $\mathbb R$. Therefore there is a $x_0>-\infty$ such that $f(x)>0$ for $x\ge x_0$.
